Azure Flame (born Catherine Provenza) is a solo artist who performs as an electro house composer and D.J. Her original material is a bright, warm collage of techno and euro synthpop. Electronic and enthusiastic, her sound is reminiscent of Depeche Mode and New Order, with occasional hints of industrial and classical music elements. Azure's compositions demonstrate a strong 80's influence with her use of pumpy synths and robotic vocoders. Her lyrics contain messages of self-reliance, words of encouragement and articulate demands for respect.
Azure Flame (ASCAP) released her debut pop EP, Calling Your Name, in 2005 under the indie label, Metrotone. The EP is available in such retail outlets as Target, Tower Records, Amazon.com, VirginMega, Walden Books and Borders. The title track was released on XM Satellite radio while the dance remix version of her single, Take Me As I Am, can be still be heard in clubs along the East Coast.
Concurrently, Azure co-founded and began operating a South Florida-based music memorabilia dealership, Guitars of the Stars, and penned her memoirs entitled Drama Queen of the Mirrored Walls (Primascope Press, 2006).
Azure Flame was born in Florida, but grew up in Big Spring, Texas. Her mother, a classical pianist, began giving her piano lessons at the age of seven. Her father, an Italian native, worked as a professional aviation artist. Azure's major musical influences include Fatboy Slim, Boy George, Information Society, Depeche Mode and Guns N' Roses.
Azure relocated to Dallas in 2000. She was quickly in the company of fellow musicians, club owners, managers, promoters and producers. She acted as her own manager and publicist, compiling a press kit, designing magazine and internet ads, contacting local music critics and columnists, establishing contacts and connections and composing press releases.
